State-Certified & Community-Focused

Our volunteers complete required state certification courses and regularly attend regional and county-wide training sessions. In addition, we conduct in-house drills to stay proficient with the equipment and apparatus housed right here in Troutville. We offer an annual fire academy in conjunction with Botetourt County Fire & EMS that includes Firefighter 1 & 2, CPR, Hazardous Materials Operations & Passenger Vehicle Extrication.

Training is not a one-time event—it’s a continuous process. By investing time in education and skill development, the Troutville Volunteer Fire Department ensures we are always ready to respond with professionalism, confidence, and compassion.

If you’re interested in serving your community and being part of a team that trains hard and works together, we welcome you to join us.

Fire Training Center

In 2025, our Fire Training Center suffered a catastrophic fire, rendering the building a total loss. It was more than the loss of a building—it was the loss of a space where skills were sharpened, confidence was built, and generations of firefighters prepared to serve. For years, the training grounds at the Troutville Volunteer Fire Department stood as a symbol of dedication and readiness. Within those walls, countless drills were conducted, lessons were learned, and teamwork was strengthened.

While the loss was difficult, it has only strengthened our resolve. Training is the backbone of an effective fire department. It ensures that when the tones drop, our members respond with skill, coordination, and professionalism. Though the structure is gone, our commitment to preparedness has not wavered. We have continued training through mutual aid partnerships, regional facilities, and adaptive drill environments to ensure our firefighters remain ready to serve our community at the highest level.

Now, we look to the future. We are committed to rebuilding a modern, state-of-the-art training facility—one that not only replaces what was lost but improves upon it in every way. The new center will be designed with enhanced safety features, expanded training props, and increased functionality to better simulate real-world emergencies. Plans include upgraded technology, improved ventilation systems, multi-story training configurations, and flexible spaces that allow for a wide range of scenarios—from structural firefighting and search operations to technical rescue and emergency medical training.

This new facility will reflect who we are today and who we strive to be tomorrow: prepared, progressive, and community-focused.

Out of adversity comes opportunity. The rebuilding of our training center represents growth, resilience, and a renewed investment in the safety of our firefighters and the citizens we proudly serve. The fire may have taken our structure, but it did not take our spirit. We will rebuild—stronger, safer, and more capable than ever.
