Multiple agencies are working to extract an injured hiker from the Appalachian Trail. At approximately 1740 hrs, Troutville Fire, Medic 2, and the Botetourt County Special Operations Team were alerted to respond in the area of Lambert's Meadow for a subject that had fallen; resulting in a wrist injury along with a possible concussion and vomiting. Crews from Troutville, Eagle Rock, Fincastle, Read Mountain and county paid staff are on location working to remove the patient. An off-road stokes basket, 2 side-by-side style RTVs, and 11 personnel are on the trail at the moment with additional resources in queue at the command post. ... See MoreSee Less

As of 2248 hrs, all groups that made entry into the trail have rendezvoused with the main evac group. Everyone making their way out - PAR 14+1 patient.

UPDATE - 0017 on Saturday 4/21: All fire/rescue personnel are out of the woods and the patient has been transported to RMH. Beginning to breakdown the command post and return units to service.

I have a friend who's son left a few weeks ago in Georgia and is hiking the AT but feel sure it's not him, not in our area that soon but prayers for the hiker and their family. Hope they recover soon and their condition not too serious.

Thank you for all you do to help people and sometimes animals, too.

Prayers for everyone there!

Prayers

🙏

Be safe

Ty
