Cold Weather Makes for a Difficult Attack
January 3, 2010 - On 1/2/10 Company 1 (Blue Ridge), Company 12 (Read Mountain), Rescue 1 (Blue Ridge), Rescue 7 and Air-1 were dispatched to Healing Springs Road for a working fire. Upon the arrival of Wagon-1 Command (Chief-1) advised that light smoke showing. Within minutes Command requested additional resources due to difficulty locating the extension of the fire. Company 2 responded with Squad-2 with 4 and Tanker-2 with 2. Upon our arrival Squad-2's crew was split and 2 personnel were assigned to Fire Attack and the other 2 RIC. Water supply was established and an extensive knockdown and overhual operation began. Additional units responded from surrounding localities. Units operating on scene included: W-1, E-1, Air-1, 150, 152, 154, S-2, T-2, B-2, T-4, W-7, W-12, E-12, U-12, B-12, 12-1, E-20 (Vinton), T-2 (Vinton), Rehab-2 (Vinton), W-9 (Montvale), E-9 (Montvale), P-9 (Montvale), VDOT, AEP, L-3 (Buchanan) filled station 2.
